How much is a disabled room and why do they cost a lot more, l know they are bigger but that’s penalise the disabled
Prices for all cabins vary according to cruise length and destination. Accessible cabins are normally priced the same as any other cabin with the same designation, which would be any others in the same general location that are shown in the same color when viewing the ship’s deck plans.
But the fold up scooters are a lot smaller than a manual wheel even when folded we had a terrible time on the Ariva in Decembers maiden voyage plus all the problems to the fact we’ve cancelled all future cruises with PO
There are ships that have some cabins labeled as fully accessible while others are just ambulatory accessible. The fully accessible ones often have features like wider doors and roll-in showers and would be far more likely to have space to park a scooter or wheelchair than an ambulatory accessible cabin would. I’ve only ever taken one cruise on P&O, so this is just a generalization from things I’ve seen on various other lines.
They do not penalize the disabled. Pricing is determined by category. Not all categories have accessible cabins. For example, if category 4U doesn’t have accessible cabins, but there is one in category 2U (which is a higher, more expensive category) then obviously you’ll pay more to have the accessible cabin, because the cheaper category doesn’t have one.
Location and the number of berths determine category. Better location, or more berths, are more expensive categories. Often times, accessible cabins are midship so that they can be located closer to elevators – this is a more expensive category due to the more desirable location. Some accessible cabins are in a higher category because they can sleep 3 or 4 – even if only two are booking the cabin….you pay for the category you book. The accessible cabin will be priced the exact same as a standard cabin in the same category.
Hope that helps you understand
